Poverty - The curse of Society
At present India is fighting with Covid 19 where social media is flowed with our lockdown activities and we all are busy in discovering our hidden talent, there on the other side the tribal society who contains 104 million people (according to 2011 Govt. of India census) which covers around 8.6% population of India, facing another kind of challenges due to this pandemic. There are 645 tribal communities all over the India mainly concentrated in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Northern India and Andaman and Nicobar Island.
Among these tribal people there is less awareness about this Novel Corona virus as there are no social media and other media as well and another big issue is the communication gap due to various of language. So, they are unable to access the proper information as most of them have no knowledge about other language except their own, though some social media platform translate the current news for them to make them aware like for Yavatmal tribe (Maharastra) the message is dubbed in Kolami language.
Tribal people are already facing many health issues due to lack of proper hygiene and their immune system are also low, according to a report due to lack of proper nutrition. In tribal community there are already many diseases leading such as Malaria, TB, and Leprosy. If Corona Virus will started getting community spread among tribal, it will be uncontrollable due to lack of infrastructure, lack of enough medical kits, doctors and other medical staff as well as proper administration.
Not only had this tribal society had facing a huge breakdown in economy. Minor Forest Products (MFPs) are backbone of tribal economy and around 200 recognise MFPs are there including tendu, bamboo, mahuwa (flower and seed), sal (leaf and seed), lac, chiranjee, tamarind, gum and karanjseed but now as lock down is going on throughout the India so all transportation has been stopped so there is no economical transaction and also the weekly market is closed due to lock down there is only seller in

Though government gives relief in taxation for tribal and the Forest rights’ groups demand to Ministry of Tribal Affairs to make a Covid response cell for taking the further necessary steps and provide guidelines. Except this many NGOs along with government help them with foods and other necessaries. Government is looking after this matter to make their situation better. After all tribal are representative of our rich Indian versatile culture.
